Course Objectives: Learners will be able to apply principles of professional ethics, conduct, policies and procedures and inclusive work practices to protect the well-being and interests of clients and caregivers. They will also be able to apply relevant ethical decision-making processes to address ethical dilemmas and issues
  4. Course Content: This proposed course will explore the legal provisions in the social service settings in Singapore and will help learners to understand a wide range of issues concerning these legislations. Many examples and cases, which are drawn from actual social service practice in various settings with different types of clients, will represent ethical and professional issues which are likely to be encountered by the learners throughout their professional career. Learners will be taught to use decision-making processes to resolve the dilemmas and issues they will face in future. The course will also explain to learners how professional counsellors should apply ethical standards in practice with reference to the Code of Professional Ethics of the Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors Singapore (APACS), and Singapore Association of Counselling (SAC).
    The proposed course ‘Ethics, Values and Legislation’ is suitable for all frontline practitioners and managers within any social service setting.
