  7. Unit Aims:
    Students should research and develop their own role in leadership and management in health and social care provision through a systematic review of the development of systems, policies and practices and management of others within area of health and Social care practice. Students will focus on a specific project and lead and manage teams in developing project in line with current legislative frameworks. The unit requires practical application of management skills and should be assessed around a current work role.
  8. Learning Outcomes
    1. Understand the importance of own role in leading practice and provision in health and social care
      • Critically analyse methods and styles of leadership and their advantages and disadvantages in health and social care provision
      • Evaluate own role and responsibilities leading practice in health and social care provision in relation to theoretical model
      • Assess current skills and competencies against own role and organisational requirements
      • Develop plans that identify opportunities to meet current and future needs
    2. Be able to develop strategies for leading and managing in an area of health or social care provision
      • Evaluate current legislative, statutory and non-statutory frameworks and their applicability to health and social care provision generall
      • Analyse organisational policies and procedures for compliance with legislative, statutory and non-statutory frameworks in own area
      • Identify areas for change/adaptation and develop plans to improve policies and procedures where deficient in own area
    3. Be able to lead and manage a projects or practice and provision within health and social care
      • Critically analyse the component stages of a project
      • Design a project plan in line with identified needs and/or improvements.
      • Identify and justify appropriate resources for project
      • Develop a monitoring and reviewing strategy for the project that assesses impact on provision and others
    4. Be able to lead and develop others in area of health or social care
      • Critically evaluate the role of the leader in promoting and communicating organisational vision to others
      • Evaluate the theoretical concepts behind fostering team working environments in a leadership role
      • Analyse the importance of developing a team that promotes professionalism and mutual trust and respect
      • Discuss how the leader supports and develops team members in continual professional development
