In collaboration with YM, ASAS is facilitating volunteer opportunities for our students in the following areas:

 

1. Early Childhood Champions – Befriender

 

About

Project Empower and Home MENDAKI School are two pilot programmes for families from the low income families with pre-school going children. The objective is to bring awareness of Early Childhood Learning to families, provide resources to engage and communicate with children and to motivate families to improve their skills and household economic through national initiatives.

 

Target Participants

Malay/Muslim families with pre-school and school going children, from lower income group

 

Volunteer requirements

  • Minimum 25 years old
  • Preferred married with children
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood  is an advantage
  • Able to engage young kids
  • Able to communicate with parents/ guardians

 

Commitment

  • Min 1 visit per month (max 2 visits per month) – 1st 3 months
  • Min 1 phone call per month
  • Monthly volunteer activity report with families

Resource Kit Training

Journey to Early Childhood

Born to Play

 

Location

Islandwide; Volunteer will be assigned to families to closer proximity to homes

 

2. KidsREAD Volunteer

 

About KidsREAD

KidsREAD is a programme by National Library Board (NLB) to promote the love of reading and cultivating good reading habits among young Singaporeans, specifically children from the lower income families. It will also provide an avenue for children from various races to interact from an early age.

Target Participants
20 kids per club of age 4-6 years old & 7-8 years old from household families of $1,500 PCI

 

Volunteer requirements

  • Minimum 16 years old
  • Good command of English and articulation
  • Team player
  • Able to engage with kids

 

Commitment

2 hrs per session; 32 sessions; weekly

 

Training

Mandatory half-day training on KidsREAD by NLB;
Upcoming training dates: 11 Nov, 20 Jan, 10 Feb and 17 Mar

  • Jurong Library (Weekends)
  • Pasir Ris Library (Weekends)
  • Mayflower Primary Student Care (Weekdays)
  • Blangah Rise Primary Student Care (Weekdays)
